Community Commitment
At the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, we believe in being an engaged neighbor and partner to the people we serve, and appreciate the responsibilities and sentiments that come with that commitment. As leaders in the delivery of patient care, education and research, our vision is to create, nurture and sustain long-term relationships with the communities we serve. Community education designed to promote health and wellness is a primary focus of our efforts. In addition, we develop partnerships to bring together the expertise, resources and wisdom from the community with that of the health system to strengthen the quality of life for the many communities we serve and continuously elevate access to quality healthcare.
The UIC Neighborhoods Initiative (UICNI) brings together faculty and community scholars to support, initiate, coordinate and celebrate community and University partnerships. This can be through encouraging and sustaining a supportive environment for productive dialogue, or through active intervention to addresses communication barriers inherent in diverse community, racioethnic and institutional cultures.
We believe in maintaining and consistent presence in the community, facilitating wherever possible more direct access to information and resources. By taking a dynamic, responsive approach that includes community outreach and engagement, as well as interdisciplinary and high impact partnerships between the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System and the community, we are changing medicine. For good.
