Bri Baboolal Admin Fellow Bri Baboolal
Bri Baboolal grew up in Great Neck, NY. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Public Health and a minor in Spanish. Throughout her education, Bri recognized the importance of community efforts and healthcare management in alleviating the gaps that exist in serving patient populations. Before her graduation, Bri delved into many public health experiences, including working as a Contact Tracer and the Medical Reserve Corps Volunteer Coordinator for the Johnson County Public Health Department. These opportunities allowed her to gather epidemiologic data, counsel clients, contribute to a publication on mask effectiveness, and organize volunteers to assist in emergent disasters. Her passion for public health continued as Bri chose to pursue her Master of Health Administration at her alma mater in the Fall of 2021. During her master's program, Bri began working as a Graduate Assistant for the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. This role provided her with firsthand experience of the complexities of managing support services for a healthcare organization to run smoothly. She assisted compliance coordinators as they prepared for the Joint Commission, analyzed, and leveraged data to address safety and security needs within the ED, and collaborated with epidemiology to decrease infection rates among subspecialty clinics. Bri discovered her enjoyment in working in academic medicine and decided to complete her internship with the Stead Family Children's Hospital. This opportunity allowed her to see the unique efforts required when addressing different patient populations. Throughout her internship, she aided in the development of the workplace violence governance structure, benchmarked and revised visitation policies across the inpatient and outpatient departments, and was actively involved in coordinating with Child Life Specialists during the implementation and onboarding process for a Facility Dog Program. Bri is thrilled to be transitioning into the role of Administrative Fellow here at UI Health. She is eager to be a part of an organization driven to provide high-value and personalized healthcare that addresses health disparities. In her free time, Bri enjoys going on long walks, trying new restaurants, traveling, and spending time with family and friends.

Karl Gieseke Admin FellowKarl Gieseke
Karl Gieseke grew up in Winfield, IL. He graduated from Concordia University – Chicago with a Bachelor of Arts in Healthcare Management. Before and throughout his time in college, Karl worked at Central DuPage Hospital as a Patient Care Technician, where he could draw on his extensive background in military medicine to help take care of critically ill COVID-19 patients. Karl transitioned to the Staffing Coordinator role at Central DuPage Hospital after graduation. This role introduced him to the challenges faced by many healthcare organizations surrounding patient throughput, access to care, strategy, and workforce management. These experiences, viewed through the additional lens of a bedside caregiver during the COVID-19 Pandemic, cemented his desire to become a healthcare administrator. Karl began pursuing his Master’s Degree in Healthcare Administration in the fall of 2021 at University of Illinois Chicago. During his second year, he worked as an administrative intern at Duly Health and Care – the largest independent, multi-specialty physician-directed medical group in the Midwest. Focused on operations in the Primary Care service line, he was involved in multiple process improvement projects. He assisted in a schedule realignment initiative designed to increase access to care, helped revamp the late cancellation and no-show policy, rewrote portions of the emergency management policy, participated in initiatives designed to improve revenue cycle management, applied Lean methodology to increase the number of appointments booked from Immediate Care Centers, and developed a plan to implement a Collaborative Care Model between the Primary Care and Behavioral Health service lines. Further, he was active in the organization’s Veterans Community Resource Group, ensuring that each branch of the military was represented on the intranet during their respective birthdays. Outside of his internship, Karl was a virtual programming host for the American College of Healthcare Executives, participated in four national case competitions and currently serves as the Marketing and Communications Committee Co-Chair for the Chicago Health Executives Forum. As an Administrative Fellow, Karl is excited to enmesh himself into the fabric of the organization and draw on his own bedside experiences to enhance the lives of the patients and community served by UI Health. In his free time, Karl enjoys spending time with his family, umpiring college baseball, cheering on Chicago sports, and is an avid bowler and golfer.
