The University Of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System at Chicago is seeking a Patient Intake Nurse for it’s Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant Program to coordinate:
- Direct daily referral and intake operations for the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant program, including creating Standard Operating Procedures for the intake process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Manage clinical and medical assessments and evaluate patient testing for eligibility for transplant.
- Perform searches for related and unrelated donors through National Marrow Donor Program.
- Proactively pursue, establish, and maintain relationships with current and potential referral sources.
- Educate patients, donors, and their families all risks and benefits of transplantation as well as all procedures necessary for the donation and transplantation.
- Oversee the provision of social service intervention, coordination, assessment and referral to patients and families. Consult and coordinate patient services with financial applications and insurance providers.
- Gather and report referral statistics including key customer referral trends. Identify process improvements in program's workflow.
- Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.
A Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (RN) is required; Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) preferred. A minimum of 2 years Medical-Surgical nursing experience is required; Oncology nursing experience preferred. Comprehensive knowledge of various hematologic malignancies, therapeutic regimens, and side effects of medications and treatment.
Ability to work in critical time-sensitive deadlines and multi task; triage and ER experience preferred.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, and expertise communicating life and death healthcare information; proficient in Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel and general working knowledge of internet business research.
