The African Festival of the Arts is one of the largest and most recognized festivals of its kind in the Midwest and Chicago. The festival had multiple pavilions, including the Wellness Village Health Pavilion. Over 250,000 people attended the event over the Labor Day weekend. UI Health provided awareness of its Mile Square Health Center locations and services, the upcoming Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace, as well as, a "How Well Do You Know Your Health" Spin & Win game.

In coordination with Goldstar Communications, we conducted three radio interviews on WVON with Dr. Robert Winn, Associate Vice President for Community Based Practices, Dr. Sonja Boone, Senior Director Community Based Practices and Henry Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer, Mile Square Health Center Clinics. Topics discussed included: UI Health's mission on health equity, the services and locations of UI Health's Mile Square Health Centers, the Affordable Care Act, and signing up for the Illinois Health Insurance Marketplace.

UI Health also had the opportunity to speak to the public through Dr. Sonja Boone's Health Talk and Q&A from the health pavilion stage. Dr. Pamela Roper and Zyra Gooden-Smith addressed the public on the Youth N*Spire stage, where they talked about the topic of sexually transmitted disease and HIV awareness, treatment, and prevention. UI Health Mile Square Health Centers and Henry Taylor were acknowledged on the main stage on the final day of the festival during the musical performance with recording artist and actress, Brandy.
