Through the Southwest Airlines Medical Transportation Grant Program (MTGP), Southwest Airlines provides complimentary, roundtrip tickets to nonprofit hospitals and medical transportation organizations. Southwest allows participating nonprofit hospitals the freedom to determine how to distribute the tickets to patients and/or caregivers. The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System has reserved this usage for patients undergoing procedures or treatment and not for those seeking consults or second opinions. UI Health has been awarded 40 airline tickets for the year 2013 to assist our patients with transport from anywhere Southwest Airlines
For three years running, UI Health has been the recipient for medical transport assistance for those patients who cannot afford to fly. Over these years we have provided over 20 patients/significant others access to tickets from the Carolinas, Georgia, Louisiana and Oregon.
