Pediatric Neurology

The Division of Pediatric Neurology at UI Health provides diagnosis and treatment services for children with nervous system problems, including epilepsy and headaches, cerebral palsy, developmental delays, and other brain disorders.

Pediatric Epilepsy Center of Excellence

The Pediatric Epilepsy Center of Excellence provides the highest quality of care for all children with epilepsy, including advanced management of medication resistant epilepsy. Our team manages the most complex patients with epilepsy using a multidisciplinary approach that involves many highly trained medical providers across the spectrum of the UI Health system.

Sturge-Weber Syndrome Center of Excellence

Sturge-Weber Syndrome (SWS) is a rare vascular disorder characterized by a facial port-wine birthmark/stain, in addition to neurological abnormalities — including seizures, developmental delay, weakness of one side of the body, and headache — and glaucoma. UI Health is designated as a Sturge-Weber Syndrome Center of Excellence by the Sturge-Weber Foundation.

The pediatric neurologists and epilepsy specialists at UI Health work with a multidisciplinary medical team — including dermatologists, craniofacial surgeons, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, endocrinologists, geneticists, psychologists, and psychiatrists — to help manage the complex needs of patients with Sturge-Weber Syndrome.

Neurofibromatosis Center of Excellence

The Neurofibromatosis Center of Excellence cares for patients with neurofibromatosis (NF) and the spectrum of complex medical conditions that arise due to this neurogenetic condition.

Our program features a monthly joint neuro-ophthalmologic clinic staffed by a pediatric neuro-ophthalmologist and neurologist to evaluate patients for NF and follow them over time with appropriate screening for complications associated with this condition. We provide genetic counseling for patients and families, and we have an availability of subspecialty medical and surgical consultative services available for more complex concerns related to NF, including otolaryngology (ENT), general surgery, cerebral angiography, and radiation oncology.
