Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): Group Therapy

Our Behavioral Health Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) features a number of therapy groups to provide therapeutic, social, and recreational opportunities to enable patients to achieve their mental health goals, learn skills, and address quality of life issues. Groups include:

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Skills: Learn skills to Catch, Challenge, and Change negative thoughts that trigger emotions and behaviors that often become problems, and look at how you are using and/or can use these skills in your daily life.

Communication Skills: Develop ways to improve communication by identifying communication styles and practicing effective ways to identify and express needs.

Group Therapy: This group encourages you to focus on current problems and issues and to engage in solving problems, offering support and learning from the experiences of others.

Goals Group: This group will help you learn how to set achievable goals for yourself.  You will create a weekly goal for yourself in CRP, and discuss both what has helped you achieve your goals and what has previously gotten in the way, and how you can use this knowledge in future goal-setting.

Leisure Skills: Group is designed to stimulate creativity while promoting goal directed activity and more productive/meaningful use of time at home/in community.

Medication & Diagnosis Education: Learn about psychiatric medications, psychiatric diagnoses, and symptoms.

Mind & Body Connection: Learn how we experience emotions in the body, and how the brain helps us survive, both emotionally and physically.

Mindfulness: Learn to focus attention on one thing at a time, develop the ability to tolerate uncomfortable moments, feelings and thoughts without using behaviors that could be unhealthy or harmful.

Movement & Relaxation Group: An opportunity to engage in moderate physical activity and relaxation techniques - adjusted to your comfort level and ability - in a supportive setting. 

Positive Reflections: This group is designed to reflect on progress during the past week in treatment, to celebrate other positive aspects of life, and to build community. Reflections will be made through art, crafts, or other means.

Stress Management: Learn and practice various stress-management techniques.

Symptom Management: Structured group designed to educate you about your psychiatric symptoms, how symptoms affect your daily life, and ways to manage these symptoms.
