Support after Bariatric Surgery
UI Health offers several programs to help support patients after bariatric surgery. The classes and one-on-one support helps patients:
- Adjust to changes in lifestyle after the surgery
- Stay on track with changes in healthy eating and exercise
- Get back on track for those who have started slipping into unhealthy habits
There are monthly support group meetings for patients who have undergone any type of bariatric surgery. The group will be held on the first Wednesday of the month from 4-5 pm in the Outpatient Care Center, 3F. Each month a different provider will discuss a different topic and answer your questions; time will also be provided for participants to share with and obtain support from each other. No notification is required ahead of time- just show up!

Dietitians and psychologists are available to meet with you on an individual basis to support you in staying on track or in getting back on track. You can meet with them during your follow up clinic appointments or schedule one-on-one appointments with them. If you want to meet with a psychologist or dietician during your clinic appointment, just inform the staff and they will meet with you. To schedule appointments with the bariatric dietitians call 312.996.5100, and with the psychologists call 312.355.3463.
If there is any additional support you think you could benefit from after surgery, such as a consultation with a physical therapist for exercise suggestions, or have any questions about what support is available, please ask a member of your bariatric team.
