Dr. Brian Layden is the chief of the Diabetes Center & Endocrinology Clinic at UI Health. He also focuses on genetic disorders, adrenal disorders, general endocrinology, and obesity linked to genetic traits that impact metabolism. His lab focuses on uncovering metabolic pathways that contribute to obesity and diabetes and identifying small molecules or drugs that can be used to target those pathways to prevent and treat disease. Some of his current research examines the contribution of the gut microbiome to diabetes and obesity and how it may be "repaired" as part of treatment for these diseases. He is an associate professor and the chief of the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism in the UIC College of Medicine.
