The Emergency Department at UI Health is open 24/7/365 to treat the emergency medical needs of all patients. While an emergency room visit can be difficult and frightening, we will do our best to make your visit smooth and easier.

Emergency Department Services

The Emergency Department at UI Health provides comprehensive medical services for all emergency medical situations, including severe injuries, major illnesses, and symptoms of serious medical conditions.

Visit our Emergency Department if you are experiencing any of the following conditions:

  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Symptoms of heart attack (severe chest pain) or stroke (changes in speech, limb weakness, numbness) 
  • Fainting or feeling dizzy or weak
  • Eye injuries or vision problems
  • Severe or sudden pain (abdominal pain, severe headaches)
  • Severe injuries, including head injuries/loss of consciousness and burns
  • Continuous bleeding
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • Severe or ongoing vomiting or diarrhea
  • Seizures
  • Signs of infection in children less than 3 months old
  • Pregnancy-related problems, including abdominal pain and vaginal bleeding
  • Suicidal thoughts

Visit the Urgent Care Center at UI Health for immediate care and treatment of non-life-threating injuries and conditions, including:

  • Injuries requiring X-rays
  • Cuts requiring stitches
  • Cold and flu
  • Fevers, sore throats, earaches
  • Sports injuries
  • Other minor ailments for children and adults

Our Emergency Department Team

Our Emergency Department physicians and trauma nurse specialists have received specialized training to provide care to patients with acute illnesses or injuries that require immediate medical attention. Our physicians have the advanced skill and knowledge to perform emergency procedures, including trauma resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support, advanced airway management, and surgical procedures. Our specialized ED nurses utilize the latest research to assure that patients receive the appropriate testing, care, and education necessary during an emergency treatment.
