Disclaimer: Items with an * might have a different procedure if hired as an employee of an academic department/college. Please consult with your department HR representative for additional information.
Before Your Start Date
- Complete your UI New Hire employment forms.
- You should have received a separate email from our recruiting team containing your new hire login ID and password.
- See the UI New Hire Quick Start Guide
- Questions? Visit the University of Illinois New Hire System landing page or follow up with your contact on our recruiting team.
- Establish your NetID
- This will establish your credentials for the Hospital and University networks.
- Your UI Health login credentials can be found in an email from noreply@uillinois.edu with the subject line: UI New Hire Login ID for <First Name, Last Name>.
- Questions? Follow up with your recruiting contact.
- Reset your Password
- Visit the University NetID Center.
- Login using your temporary password.
- Click ‘Change Password’ and follow the instructions. Your chosen password will become your Hospital and University password.

- Download DUO Two Factor Authentication on your non-UI Health device.
- If directed by your hiring manager, download Citrix on your non-UI Health device.

- Review the Uniform Policy based on your role
- Reference the detailed description of the uniform requirements as outlined in the Dress Code and Appearance Policy (HR 1.05 Dress Code and Appearance Policy).
- Nursing & Clinical Roles must purchase the designated scrub uniform color assigned to you. More information about the scrubs policy will be discussed during your nursing core orientation.
Please use the chart below when purchasing your first pair.

Medical Assistants, Nurse Technicians, Behavioral Interventionists, Patient Safety Attendants and Emergency Medical Technicians
Hunter green scrub tops and pants.
LPN’s
Choose from the UIH pallet of colors, any color of blue or green (except for hunter green/black).
Staff in the pediatric inpatient unit, PICU, and Children and Youth Center
Can wear a printed scrub top with their assigned color bottoms
Clinical staff in the psychiatric units
May wear business appropriate attire as an alternative to scrubs while providing direct patient care to maintain milieu
Staff in restricted areas
Will wear the hospital issued gray scrubs
- Prepare for your UI Health New Employee Orientation
- Your orientation will be held virtually, and login information will be sent to your personal email address provided to your Human Resources Business Partner.

First 30 Days
- Visit My UI Info
- Verify your personal identifiable information.
- View your earning statements.
- Sign up for our Tuition Waiver program, if applicable.
- Make benefits plan selections
- Visit My UI Info or the UIH Employee Intranet to confirm the best options for you.
- Full-time employees can opt out of benefits.
- Part-time employees can waive coverage.
- If no selections are made within 30 days of your start date, coverage will default to our Quality Care Health plan and a dental plan without dependent coverage.
- Register for and attend a Benefits Webinar.

- Work environment and behaviors expectations.
- Attendance reporting processes.

- Positive Time Reporting (PTR)
- Same-day or schedule absences
- Review your job description and responsibilities.
- Address misconduct, mandated reporter guidance, ICARE behaviors, and safety codes and procedures.
- Review your department’s:
- Team Introductions
- Tour your department.
- Review your department’s organizational chart.
- Understand who your key partners are and the roles they play on your team.
During Days 31 - 60
- Make retirement plan selections.
- Visit My UI Info or the UIH Employee Intranet to confirm the best options for you.
- Learn more about the State University Retirement System (SURS) and visit New to SURS to learn more about the options available to you.
- Familiarize self with intranet, with a special focus on our:
- IS Training and Resources.
- IS Self Service Portal.
- Marketing Toolkit.
- Complete New Employee onboarding survey at 60 days. You will receive an email from engageuih@uic.edu with more information.
- Learn about the organizational and departmental recognition programs.
During Days 61 - 90
- Understanding and managing your performance
- Conduct personal and professional development conversations with your manager.
- Address performance goals, review professional development and learning opportunities, confront and deal with performance challenges.
- See the Empowers FAQ Toolkit.
- Schedule one on one time with your manager to:
- Review new hire training checklists.
- Review the Civil Service Probationary Document, if applicable.
- Begin to understand the methods in which the organization and your department conduct recognition and rewards
- Begin to establish a routine of regular thank you’s for colleagues, leaders, and/or preceptors.
- Familiarize yourself with organizational recognition programming and the nomination process.
