UI Health Celebrates Filipino American Heritage Month

At UI Health, we honor and celebrate the Filipino community's rich history, culture, and contributions during Filipino Heritage Month. This month offers an opportunity to recognize Filipino Americans' vibrant traditions, values, and accomplishments and their vital role in shaping our institution, city, and nation.

Filipino Americans have a long-standing tradition of service and excellence in healthcare, with many contributing to various aspects of the medical field—from nursing to leadership roles in hospital administration. Filipino nurses make up a significant portion of the healthcare workforce in the United States, demonstrating resilience, compassion, and expertise, particularly during the global pandemic.

The Filipino cultural values of kagandahang-loob (innate kindness), pakikisama (sense of togetherness), and bayanihan (community spirit) align closely with our ICARE values of Inclusion, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence. These values are reflected in the outstanding care provided by Filipino staff at UI Health and the broader healthcare community.

Throughout the month of October, we invite our staff and employees to join us in celebrating Filipino Heritage through our upcoming events. For more event information, visit the hospital employee intranet.

We are proud to recognize the Filipino staff members who consistently contribute to UI Health’s commitment to providing quality care for everyone. Their dedication and hard work exemplify the best of UI Health’s mission.

Together, let’s celebrate the spirit of Filipino Heritage and continue building a more inclusive, compassionate community at UI Health.
