April is National Donate Life month
Through April 30
Faced with unimaginable loss at the unexpected death of her 18-year-old daughter Domonique "Nikki" Smith, , Vicki Olds turned tragedy into triumph when she made the decision to donate Nikki's heart to a lifelong friend. Nikki's generous donation helped save four lives and created a lasting legacy that honors her generous spirit.
During National Donate Life Month in April, UI Health is partnering with Gift of Hope to increase awareness about the life-saving and healing benefits of organ and tissue donation. You can help make a difference by adding your name to the donor registry. Your decision to register as a donor may one day save and enhance lives.
- More than 4,000 patients in Illinois and 1,100 in Indiana are waiting for lifesaving organ transplants.
- One organ donor can save up to eight lives and heal more than 25 people through tissue donation.
- Nationally, 108,000 people are waiting for life-saving transplants, and one person is added to the waiting list every 10 minutes.
Join the registry today. To sign up as an organ donor, please go to donor registry or call the Gift of Hope of Illinois at 630.758.2600. Share your decision to donate with your family and friends.
