National Kidney Foundation of llinois LogoObesity & Kidney Disease Webinar (Event In English)

One in three American adults are at risk for kidney disease, and Black Americans are more than three times as likely to experience kidney failure compared to their White counterparts. This disparity is largely driven by economic, structural, and social factors that have disproportionately affected Black communities.

As a result, Black Americans face higher rates of high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease, all of which increase the risk for kidney disease. Additionally, traditional methods of diagnosing kidney disease have often underestimated its presence or severity in Black Americans, leading to delays in critical interventions to protect kidney function.
