Dr. Gelila Goba practices in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at UI Health. Dr. Goba's clinical interests include obstetric care for moderate-risk pregnancies, vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC), operative vaginal delivery, abnormal pap smear, colposcopy, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, fibroids, menopause, complex gynecologic conditions, and complex contraception. Dr. Goba has a significant commitment to women's health both in Chicago and across the globe. She is the director of the Global Women's Health Fellowship at the University of Illinois College of Medicine and a core faculty of the Global Medicine (GMED) Program. She also is creator of The Mela Project, a medical residency peering program that seeks to establish an "OB/GYN Center of Excellence" at Mekelle University in Ethiopia, with expansion into South Sudan, Uganda, and Somaliland. Prior to residency, Dr. Goba was the Ethiopia Country Director for EngenderHealth, a global women's health organization, where she obtained grant and private-donor funds to support maternal health and HIV/AIDS efforts in Ethiopia. She completed both a fellowship in Population & Leadership and a master's degree in Public Health at the University of Washington.
