get to know our provider
Matthew Sommers is a palliative care social worker at UI Health. Matthew has 20 years of experience working in the fields of behavioral health and death and dying, and he is a compassionate practitioner who advocates for patients and families through education and a better understanding of patients' and families’ wishes for how they want care to look like. He works collaboratively with other medical professionals to optimize quality of life, anticipate, prevent, and treat suffering throughout the continuum of a patient illness, and his goal is to provide all-person care through the assessment of psychological, social, economic, and spiritual needs. Matthew’s hope is to recognize and provide support in the issues of loss along the illness continuum and through bereavement.
