Dr. Mitra Afshari is the Director of the Neurointerventional Program for Movement Disorders at UI Health. Dr. Afshari specializes in treating patients with Movement Disorders like Parkinson’s Disease, atypical Parkinsonian syndromes, tremors, dystonia, chorea, tics, and gait disorders. She has expertise in deep brain stimulation and other interventional therapies, and works closely with the UI Health Neurosurgery team to evaluate surgical candidates and manage patients post-operatively. She also performs botulinum toxin injections for patients with dystonia, spasticity, hemifacial spasm, and migraines.
Dr. Afshari also conducts her own research that aims to develop and test innovative and accessible care solutions for patients with Parkinson's Disease, currently with a focus on telemedicine and fall prevention. She is also an experienced clinical trialist.
