Dr. Omar Perez is a clinician-scientist in the Department of Pathology at UI Health. As the Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology, Dr. Perez focuses on providing cutting-edge diagnostic testing to identify disease-causing pathogens. He works alongside clinicians to help diagnose etiological agents of infectious-disease illness and in selecting the best treatment options for patients. Dr. Perez also is active in basic and translational research studying pathogen-host interactions. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Illinois College of Medicine, and he also is a military microbiologist with the United States Army Reserves.
