What is Reproductive Health and Pregnancy Care?
Reproductive health and pregnancy care are crucial parts of your overall wellness during all stages of life. At UI Health Mile Square Health Center, our obstetricians/gynecologists (OB/GYNs) are dedicated to caring for your unique needs in a compassionate and supportive environment.
OB/GYNs specialize in reproductive health and pregnancy care and have trained extensively to understand these unique needs. They specialize in disease prevention, menstrual disorders, fertility issues, contraception, pregnancy, menopause, sexual dysfunction, pelvic pain, and other related health conditions.

Services
At UI Health Mile Square Health Center, our reproductive health and pregnancy care services include:
- Prenatal (pregnancy) care, including complete physical exams, blood and urine lab work, and routine tests, like ultrasounds and glucose tests
- Gynecologic care, including pelvic exams, sexually transmitted infection (STI) tests, diagnosis of reproductive system diseases, issues with menstruation or menopause, and emotional wellness concerns
- Cervical cancer screening, including pap tests
- Contraception, including long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), such as Nexplanon and IUD
UI Health Mile Square Health Center Gloria Elam Women’s Health Institute of Excellence
Women are the largest demographic group served by Mile Square. The UI Health Mile Square Health Center Gloria Elam Women’s Health Institute of Excellence reflects our commitment to serving this historically underserved population.
Named in honor of the contributions of one of Mile Square Health Center’s women’s health pioneers, Gloria L. Elam, MD, MPH, FACOG, Professor of Clinical Obstetrics & Gynecology, the Women’s Health Institute of Excellence is strategically designed to be:
- A home dedicated to women’s health staffed with experts including midwives, social workers, registered nurses, behavioral health consultants, dieticians, pediatricians, and dentists
- A resource center with programs and services dedicated to advancing the health, well-being, and quality of life of women
Through a $2 million Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) grant, our 2-year goals include improving:
- Prenatal care (2023)
- Access to infant care (2024)
