Humboldt Park Community Forum Informs and Enrolls People to Sign up for Health Insurance

Get Covered America Community ForumOver 100 people attended the Humboldt Park Community Forum initiated by State Representative Cynthia Soto, UI Health, the Puerto Rican Cultural Center, and Get Covered America.

The Forum informed, educated, encouraged, and engaged the community with questions from the audience and a panel discussion.  The Forum opened with a welcome from Jose Lopez, Executive Director, Puerto Rican Cultural Center (PRCC), who thanked Representative Soto for leading this event.  Maria Hernandez, Representative Soto's Administrative Assistant was present as Representative Soto was in Springfield.  The forum was moderated by Enrique Garcia Fuentes, Televisa TV correspondent.  Panelists for the forum included: Teresa Garcia & Zulma Matias, Health Care Program Specialists, Financial Case Management, UI Health; Salvador Cerna, Regional Coordinator, Marketplace Get Covered America, Office of the Governor; and Rocio Kanan, Navigator, Puerto Rican Cultural Center.

After the panel discussion and Q & A, UI Health provided appointments to ease the number of people waiting and PRCC provided enrollment on site.  UI Health received over 40 requests for appointments and distributed Mile Square Health Center information.  Get Covered America provided their recreation vehicle to help promote the event and invited the public to share their stories on health care enrollment.  Media at the event included: Azteca TV, NBC/Telemundo and National Public Radio.
