Medicaid Patients: It’s Time to Renew Your Coverage

Monday, April 17, 2023

Complete the Medicaid renewal process.

All UI Health patients who have Medicaid insurance need to go through the Medicaid-renewal process each year. This renewal process, also known as “redetermination,” had been on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, but it will resume in May 2023.

Medicaid renewal is a simple process that makes sure you are still qualified to receive benefits.

When it’s your time for renewal, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services (HFS) will send you a letter with details. Make sure that you have your current mailing address on file with the HFS Report Medicaid Change of Address Form.

You also can automatically renew if you’re signed up with HFS' Manage My Case.

When it’s your time to renew, don’t delay.

If you don’t respond by your renewal deadline, your coverage will automatically end, and you’ll lose the benefits you get through your health plan. Renewal or “redetermination” dates may vary, so make sure to find your due date in “Benefit Details” online at abe.illinois.gov.

If you have questions about renewing your Medicaid coverage, call 1.866.255.5437 (TTY: 1.877.203.1012). You can call Monday – Friday from 7 am – 7:30 pm, and Saturday from 8 am – 1 pm.
