Patient Information Regarding Staffing Interruptions
Monday, September 21, 2020
The Illinois Nurses Association (INA), the union representing more than 1,400 nurses at the University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics, began a seven-day strike Saturday, Sept. 12, at 7 am. INA members returned to work Saturday, Sept. 19, at 7 am.
The SEIU Local 73, which represents more than 2,000 healthcare workers across the spectrum of professional, technical, and clerical staff that support patient care, began a strike Monday, Sept. 14, at 6 am.
Following these interruptions, UI Health has resumed near-normal operations. Patients who had an appointment or procedure canceled will be contacted for rescheduling. We encourage patients to use the new MyChart app to manage their appointments.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Clinics is open and ready to care for you, and we remain committed to our mission of providing safe, high-quality, cost-effective care to everyone.
Though we have yet to reach agreements with the two unions, we remain committed to continued bargaining for as long as it takes to reach fair and equitable agreements with all our valued staff and care providers. More information on the INA negotiations is available at UIHealthWorkforce.uic.edu, and more information on the SEIU negotiations is available at SEIUNegotiations.uic.edu.
