Thursday, April 16, 2015

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) celebrated el Día del Niňo, a national holiday in Mexico, this past weekend. Children's Day was organized by the National Mexican Arts Museum in Chicago with over 8,000 people in attendance. The festival celebrated children and promoted a healthy life style.

The Family Festival opened with a 2.1 mile Health Walk from 1852 W. 19th Street to the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt. The Wellness celebration included health education, fitness, health screenings, nutrition, live performances, games, arts and culture.

UI Health and a team of 14 clinical employee volunteers promoted healthy living and health awareness, through pediatric dental checks and BMI screenings to complement stroke education. Our presence provided UI Health an opportunity to increase awareness of clinical services,  in addition to offering adults BMI scores, stroke education, and teaching children correct teeth brushing techniques with the popular dental monkey. Over 200 dental and BMI screenings were conducted.  The UI Health booth was also visited by UIC Chancellor Michael Amiridis.
