Illinois Medical District Guest House
The Illinois Medical District (IMD) Guest House helps ease the burden of caring for a loved one by offering convenient, affordable temporary accommodations to patients receiving treatment at UI Health and their families.
Since 2005, UI Health has partnered with the Guest House to provide the comforts of home and the care of community for those who must seek medical treatment away from home.
The IMD Guest House is located 1933 W. Polk St., on the campus of the University of Illinois at Chicago, within walking distance of the UI Health Hospital & Clinics.
The 50-apartment building includes the following services and amenities:
- Queen-size bed and queen-size sleeper sofa in each unit
- Handicap-accessible bathrooms (limited availability)
- Modestly furnished kitchenette
- Towels, linens, weekly cleaning service, and common laundry facilities
- Free telephone, wireless Internet access, and cable television
- 24-hour secured building on university campus
- Community Room with volunteer-run programming
As a part of its mission to be affordable, IMD Guest House charges no more than $60/night, and the average nightly savings compared to the nearest hotel are $220. Nearly three-fourths of guests receive financial assistance, and no one are turned away for financial reasons. Since opening, the Guest House has more than 12,000 nights of service, and today more than 450 volunteers offer their time and service to the Guest House.
The IMD Guest House is open to patients, families, and caregivers of all ages, receiving any type of treatment. By giving proper care to caregivers and outpatients, the Guest House helps ensure that the patients themselves have the support they need to heal more quickly and completely.
