Testing & Screening
Although the chance of developing melanoma increases with age, it is one of the most common cancers in young adults.
The Melanoma and Skin Cancer Program at UI Health integrates renowned skin cancer expertise with the latest mole-mapping technologies to screen for melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers before they become life threatening. If melanoma is diagnosed and treated early, the chances of a cure are good.
Schedule annual skin screenings with a dermatologist to confirm if you are at risk or have any signs of skin cancer.
Checking your skin regularly for any signs of skin cancer is also recommended. If you notice any suspicious signs or symptoms in your skin, make an appointment with a dermatologist right away. The doctor may do a biopsy, removing a sample of the suspicious area to check it for cancer.
The sooner skin cancer is diagnosed the sooner an effective treatment plan can be made to increase survival rate.
