Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED)
The Obstetric Emergency Department (OBED) at UI Health is a dedicated emergency room addressing the urgent concerns and individual care needs of patients throughout their pregnancy and six-week postpartum window. It is the only unit of its kind in Illinois and one of just four in the country specializing in the emergent care of pregnant patients receiving prenatal care.
The team of highly skilled OB/GYN providers delivers exceptional personalized care. The care team includes attending and resident physicians, certified nurse midwives, and Family & Community Medicine physicians. Patients in the OBED receive comprehensive, closely monitored care from our obstetric specialists that allow patients to receive the testing, assessments, and management they need.
The OBED also participates in transfers and referrals from outside emergency departments and Labor & Delivery triage units across the Chicagoland area and the state of Illinois, allowing pregnant patients across the city and state to receive the specialized care they need.
