Meet the Team

Claudia Boucher Berry, MDClaudia Boucher-Berry, MD, is an Associate Professor of Pediatric Endocrinology. Dr. Boucher-Berry's interest in Pediatric Endocrinology comes from experiencing family members living with diabetes. Dr. Boucher-Berry has published articles and posters on vitamin D deficiency, short stature, and obesity. She is a member of the Lawson Wilkins Pediatric Endocrine Society and Endocrine Society. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her children.

Roxana Aguirre Castaneda, MDRoxana Aguirre Castaneda, MD,  practices in the Division of Pediatric Endocrinology at UI Health. Dr. Aguirre Castaneda's treats patients with pituitary, adrenal, and puberty disorders, and her research interests include extraskeletal benefits of vitamin D, adrenoleukodystrophy, and type 1 and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents.

Marla Solomon Marla C. Solomon, RD, LDN, CDE, is a registered dietitian and has been a certified diabetes educator for more than 20 years. She is involved in the Northern Illinois American Diabetes Association, with which the Pediatric Endocrinology Program at UI Health partnered to develop a city-based pediatric diabetes camp. Her other passion is advocating for people with diabetes by being a founding member of the Illinois Diabetes Policy Coalition and an Illinois Diabetes state commissioner.  When Marla's life does not involve diabetes, her focus is her family's precious time together on long walks throughout the Chicago communities and cooking together using local food items.

Ruth Melgoza Walker RN CDERuth Melgoza-Walker, RN, CDE, has been a nurse for more than 22 years. She has worked in different areas of nursing in medical surgical, obstetrics & gynecology, and home health. Her most recent passion is being a diabetes educator. She likes spending her time with her two kids in Tae Kwon Do practice and soccer games; she also participates in their boy scout and girl scout activities.

Debara Preston, RN, MS, CDEDebara Preston, RN, MS, CDE, has worked exclusively as a diabetes educator for the last six years. Prior to coming to the UI Health Pediatric Diabetes Program, she worked as a clinical manager in the private sector teaching insulin pump therapy and was a school nurse in the Barrington school district, which serves preschool-aged children through high school. Working with children has always been her passion, which she has expressed through inpatient care at the hospital, through home care, and by working in a private physician practice. She recently completed the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
