Group Therapy

Group Therapy for Mood & Anxiety Disorders

Group therapy is an effective form of treatment for many mental health issues. Group therapy is sometimes called:

  • Group psychotherapy
  • Group cognitive-behavioral therapy
  • Skills training groups
  • Support groups
  • Psycho-educational groups

UI Health offers group therapy that may be short-term, long-term or open-ended. The following groups are currently under way:

Symptom Management Group

Wednesdays, 3–4 pm
This group is for patients with chronic illnesses, such as schizoaffective, schizophrenia, or bipolar disorder. The focus is on symptom identification and management using a mixture of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in a recovery process. Members learn to better manage symptoms, improve functioning, and develop social skills. Participation is ideal for patients transitioning to the Community Reintegration Program or other Intensive Outpatient Program.
