Speech-Language Pathology

Speech and language development is a common concern for children born with cleft lip or palate. A cleft may interfere with your child's ability to say certain words that are part of a standard development. Our speech-language pathologist (SLP) will monitor a child's speech language development to help identify any problems early on. The SLP works with different caregivers through interviews, observations, and caregiving training, beginning at infancy, to detect and address any problems at an early age.

The SLP works with our audiologist, nurses, and psychologist to work on hearing feeding, and socialization. As the child grows, the SLP continues to monitor speech and language and may perform simple noninvasive tests to track developmental progress and identify any problems.
