Dr. Richard Novak is the Head of the Division of Infectious Diseases at UI Health, where he has worked for the past 35 years, dividing his time between teaching, research and patient care. Dr. Novak has been actively involved in HIV clinical care for 30 years and serves as the Director of the UIC Community Clinic Network (UCCN), which he began in 1991, and is largely supported by the Ryan White Care Act, Parts A and C. 

The UCCN is a network of seven HIV community-based clinical and research sites located throughout Chicago, serving about 1200 active patients. He has been engaged in HIV preventive vaccine research for 20 years, and is the principle investigator of Project WISH, a clinical research unit that focuses on clinical prevention research on women at high risk for HIV infection and men who have sex with men, and has a number of HIV prevention trials in the completed, ongoing or planning stages. Dr. Novak's expertise includes all aspects of infectious diseases. He has been listed in "Best Doctors In America" since 1998, and as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor since 2012. He is a fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. Dr. Novak also holds the title of Harry F Dowling Professorship.
