Support Mile Square

Support-Mile-Square

Mile Square is committed to providing excellent, holistic health services for underserved Chicago families and individuals. Most of our patients are from historically disenfranchised racial and ethnic minority communities. Many live at or below the federal poverty level and are uninsured or underinsured.

All receive compassionate, comprehensive care from Mile Square’s system of primary care clinics, school-based health centers, and nurse-practice sites — thanks to the generous support of caring people like you.

“I was sick and in the hospital a few months ago, and it was a wake-up call. I am doing what my doctors say, so I can keep working and take care of my family — my beautiful wife and three beautiful daughters. … My doctors [at the Mile Square Health Center] are there for me, 100 percent. My wife loves the care. She speaks Spanish, and usually someone at the clinic speaks Spanish and is able to help her.”

— David Preigo, patient at Mile Square

“What I’ve learned at Mile Square Health Center has made a big difference in my life. I’ve gone there since I was a baby. I took my kids, and now I take my grandbabies to Near West for their shots and check-ups. I’m so impressed with the care that I take two bus lines to get there.”

— Denise Stroger, patient at Mile Square

In the state of Illinois, 7% of the population — about 1 in 14 people — doesn’t have health insurance. Inadequate or no health insurance is one of the primary causes of health inequities because it prevents or delays people from getting crucial care. Those without health insurance are less likely to get preventative care for conditions like diabetes, heart disease, and cancer, and they’re more likely to delay care if problems do occur.

At Mile Square Health Center, we provide exceptional healthcare to everyone who needs it, regardless of their health insurance status or ability to pay. As a Federally Qualified Health Center, we serve the medically unserved areas of Chicago and provide services on a sliding scale fee, meaning you pay based on how much you can afford.

By donating to Mile Square, you’re directly supporting care for Chicagoans who need it most. Every dollar makes a difference in someone’s life by helping them restore health, prevent disease, promote healthy lifestyles, and access high-quality, individualized, and convenient healthcare services.

You’re also supporting the education and mentoring of aspiring healthcare professionals. Research shows that when providers reflect the communities they serve, the health of their patients is improved. Mile Square's continuing education and mentoring programs support a diverse workforce that can address the healthcare needs of Chicago.

We couldn’t do what we do without our community partnership, donors, and other supporters. Together, we can expand care to more communities and achieve health equity for all.
