New ways of picturing the human body require new ways of interpreting what we see. In the last few decades, the field of Radiology has progressed from X-rays to cutting-edge methods such as functional magnetic resonance imaging and interventional neuroradiology.
At the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System, imaging technology is constantly updated, assuring patients the benefits of the latest technology and most accurate results. Even with access to similar equipment, physicians often send patients here for the internationally recognized expertise of the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System's radiologists.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System offers a full range of the breast imaging services, including screening mammograms, diagnostic mammograms, breast biopsy, breast MRI and MRI guided breast biopsy. We are one of the leaders of breast imaging service in the Chicagoland and have Radiologists specifically trained in breast imaging.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System offers a full range of CT imaging including positron emission tomography(PET), Neuro, ENT, Cardiac, Body, Vascular and Musculoskeletal Imaging. We use state-of-the-art equipment in CT Imaging. Our Radiologists are specially trained including a world-renowned radiologist in ENT Radiology.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is home to a team of physicians who use imaging technology to dramatically reduce the pain, risk and recovery time our patients who have a growing range of conditions, including varicose veins and uterine fibroids. These specialists, called interventional radiologists, replace traditional surgery with minimally invasive techniques and small instruments. We provide a full range of interventional services, including varicose vein ablation, Uterine Fibroid Embolization (UFE), Interventional oncology therapies (such as liver and colon cancer treatments), and other state-of-the-art services. With a team of dedicated interventional radiologists, we are always available to take care of the needs of our patients and referring physicians.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System is home to the community's first and our second 3 Tesla MRI for clinical use. With the exquisite resolution, exceptional image quality and faster scan time, we are improving patients' MRI experience. The ultra-high-field strength of the 3T MR system produces some of the highest resolution images in the industry. Our Advanced Imaging Center is conveniently located off campus 1 block away from Western Avenue at 2242 West Harrison Street and Harrison and features 3T MRI technology. Besides the two 3T MRI's, we also have two 1.5T MRI and host the world's most powerful 9.4T MRI, which is dedicated to advancing medicine through clinical research and a GE 3T Scanner at our Outpatient Care Center location.
PET/CT imaging is a non- invasive procedure used to determine the presence and extent of most cancers, neurodegenerative disease and cardiovascular disease. In PET/CT, Nuclear Medicine images are superimposed with computed tomography (CT) to produce more precise information and accurate diagnoses. PET is able to detect certain diseases before other imaging modalities by visualizing the metabolic processes occurring in the body.
The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System uses state-of-the-art equipment in Ultrasound Imaging, including 4D capabilities. We have radiologists that are specially trained in Ultrasound, especially in the area of Pediatric Imaging. We provide high-end ultrasound imaging with a minimal wait time
The members of the imaging team specialize in various aspects of radiology and radiological technology. Our range of specialties guarantees the highest level of patient care. Trained and certified radiology nurses provide top-level care to ensure the wellness and safety of patients.
