Gynecologic Oncology

The Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University of Illinois Cancer Center offers compassionate, comprehensive care to women with gynecologic cancers in an academic setting. In addition to caring for cancer patients, we also care for patients with preinvasive disease and those requiring complex pelvic surgery. Cancers involving the reproductive system including those arising from the endometrium, ovaries, cervix, vulva, vagina, and gestational trophoblastic disease. We offer laparoscopic or robotic surgery whenever possible. 

We collaborate with other clinical services including radiation therapy, hematology / oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, and radiology in order to provide the best car for our patients.

Clinical Services

The Gynecologic Oncology Division at the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System provides care for patients with cancers involving the reproductive system, pre-invasive disease, and cases requiring complex pelvic surgery.  Cancers involving the reproductive system include those arising from the endometrium, ovaries, cervix, vulva, vagina, and gestational trophoblastic disease. 

We collaborate with other clinical care services, including: radiation therapy, hematology/oncology, surgical oncology, pathology, and radiology in order to take a multidisciplinary, personalized and coordinated approach and to provide the best care for our patients.

Commitment to Advancing Knowledge and Improving Care:
The Division's mission is to offer compassionate comprehensive care for women with gynecologic issues.  This includes the latest in radical and minimal invasive surgical procedures, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, clinical research trials as well as experimental therapeutic trials. In order to offer this comprehensive cancer care, the Division conducts weekly tumor board conference which include the review of all cases with expert pathologist and radiation oncologists who are also members of the NCI sponsored Gynecologic Oncology Group.

The Division is also active in developing experimental research protocols with help from faculty in the Basic Science Departments at the University of Illinois who are also members of the GOG's Experimental Medicine Committee.

However, we believe that we can offer a compassionate and comprehensive approach to the care of women with gynecologic cancers. We appreciate your support in our academic mission to improve the overall care of patients.

Division Involvement at the National Level: 
The Division is a member and active participant in the Gynecologic Oncology Group (GOG), a National Cancer Institute (NCI) sponsored clinical trials organization that offers the latest in clinical research trials for gynecologic oncology patients.  The Division is also active in the Society of Gynecologic Oncology and participates in its annual scientific meeting that brings together leading experts to discuss new findings in the field of women's cancers.
