Join the University of Illinois Cancer Center for the annual Dr. Tapas Das Gupta Cancer Research Symposium on Friday, October 9, from 10:30 am to 3 pm.

The symposium focuses on advancements in cancer clinical care and honors the late Tapas Das Gupta, MD, PhD, DSc, the first director of the University of Illinois Cancer Center, renowned surgical oncologist, and prolific researcher.

The symposium will feature presentations from cancer experts discussing innovations in cancer prevention, treatment, research, and clinical practice.

Featured speakers include:

• Joseph M. Herman, MD, MSc, MHCM — Medical Director at HistoSonics, Co-Founder of Canopy Cancer Collective, and Adjunct Professor of Radiation Medicine at Northwell Health. His presentation, “Histotripsy: Innovations in Tumor Management,” will explore the use of sound waves to precisely and noninvasively destroy liver tumors and discuss clinical outcomes and potential future applications.
• Naruhiko Ikoma, MD, MS — Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology and Associate Director of the Complex General Surgical Oncology Fellowship Program at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. He also serves as Director of Robotic Surgery Utilization Task Force and Visiting Instructor at Saiseikai Utsunomiya Hospital.
• Andrew J. Page, MD, FACS, FSSO — Sherron Berg Endowed Director for Surgical Oncology and HPB Surgery at Piedmont Oncology. His presentation, “Lessons My 4-Year-Old Son Taught Me About Building a Surgical Practice,” will highlight lessons and experiences related to developing a multidisciplinary surgical oncology practice.
• Jason D. Wright, MD — Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Obstetrician- and Gynecologist-in-Chief at Tufts Medical Center. His presentation, “New Frontiers in Primary Prevention of Ovarian Cancer,” will examine emerging approaches to ovarian cancer prevention and advances in gynecologic oncology research.

Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from leading cancer researchers and clinicians while exploring new developments in cancer care, prevention, and treatment.
