Melba Haberland practices in the Department of Pediatrics at UI Health. Melba is a pediatric nurse practitioner specializing in pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology. She is dedicated to providing compassionate, evidence-based care for children and adolescents facing complex nutritional and digestive challenges. Melba's clinical practice focuses on the comprehensive management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and she partners with families to achieve long-term remission and improved quality of life through advanced therapeutic monitoring and patient education.

Melba also has a deep clinical interest in supporting infants and children with growth faltering and malnutrition. Recognizing that every child’s nutritional journey is unique, she specializes in managing complex feeding difficulties and providing expert oversight for patients requiring enteral nutrition via feeding tubes (including G-tubes, GJ-tubes, and NG-tubes). Her  goal is to ensure that every patient receives the caloric and micronutrient support necessary for optimal brain development and physical growth.

Melba believes in a multidisciplinary, family-centered approach to medicine. Whether you are navigating a new IBD diagnosis or managing long-term home tube feeding, she strives to empower parents with the tools and confidence they need to care for their children. By blending clinical expertise with a supportive environment, Melba aims to help her patients overcome nutritional hurdles and reach their full developmental potential
