The Center for Breast Care at UI Health has again been granted full accreditation by the National Accreditation Program of Breast Centers (NAPBC), furthering its reputation as a premier provider of patient-centered breast care in the Chicagoland area.

The three-year accreditation from the NAPBC, a program administered by the American College of Surgeons, acknowledges UI Health's commitment to providing the highest quality evaluation and management of patients with breast disease. It is given to centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest quality breast care and that undergo an in-depth evaluation and review process. UI Health first achieved NAPBC accreditation in 2016.

As part of the accreditation survey process, breast centers must demonstrate compliance with NAPBC standards for treating women with diseases of the breast, including proficiency in areas such as center leadership, clinical management, research, community outreach, professional education, and quality improvement.

Following a site visit in January that included a medical records review, observation of the breast cancer tumor board, and a facility tour, the Center for Breast Care received its NAPBC re-accreditation March 25.

The NAPBC is a national coalition of professional healthcare organizations dedicated to improving the quality of care for patients diagnosed with diseases of the breast. NAPBC accreditation acknowledges the Center for Breast Care for providing value across all domains of care, including:

• Comprehensive care, including a full range of state-of-the-art services
• A multidisciplinary-team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
• Information about ongoing clinical trials and new treatment options
• Quality breast care close to home

The Center for Breast Care at UI Health has accreditation from the three bodies it recognizes for establishing care standards: the Commission on Cancer, the American College of Radiology, and the NAPBC.
