UI Health recently received the Greenhealth Leader Award and Circles of Excellence Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation’s leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare.
The Greenhealth Leader Award recognizes UI Health’s ongoing commitment to strengthening its environmental performance and embedding sustainability into its operations and culture. This distinction honors organizations with mature and robust sustainability programs, who have demonstrated their commitment to reduction Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions through at least eight unique programs measured by the Practice Greenhealth. This distinguished award is granted to less than 20% of healthcare organizations across the U.S.
The Circles of Excellence Award recognizes UI Health among the Top 10 hospitals nationally in each category that Practice Greenhealth evaluates. UI Health achieved this award for efforts in 2025 related to the Green Building category, which evaluates design, construction, renovation, and operations. Some of the key areas of focus that highlighted in in UI Health’s application included retro-commissioning; envelope projects; new construction LEED projects; ENERGY STAR® benchmarking and reduction efforts; construction waste diversion; and green flooring/furnishings procurement. This is the first time UI Health has earned Circles of Excellence recognition.
UI Health received a number of Practice Greenhealth awards since 2019, including the Greenhealth Emerald Award, the Greening the OR Recognition Award, and the Greenhealth Partner For Change Award.
