Phase 3 road closures and detours.

The third and final phase of the major construction project to calm traffic flow and improve pedestrian safety on the UI Health campus will begin Monday, April 13.

Phase 3 construction is anticipated to take 13 weeks. In this final phase, a raised intersection will be constructed at Wood and Taylor Streets, and traffic signals will be installed at the intersection of Wood and Taylor Streets.

During this phase:

  • Taylor Street will be closed to through traffic between Paulina and Wood Streets.
  • Wood Street will be closed to through traffic at Taylor Street.
  • Valet parking services for the Specialty Care Building will remain on Wood Street, south of Taylor Street.
  • Hospital valet services will operate directly in front of the hospital on Taylor Street.
  • UIC buses will continue to be rerouted as indicated in the UIC Ride app. Visit the Transportation website to view a complete list of shuttle bus stops.

Previous phases of the project added curbs extensions and raised crosswalks across UI Health’s campus in the Illinois Medical District. The project is on track to be complete this summer.

UI Health will continually provide updates on the project status and changes to campus traffic, including impacts on access to parking facilities. Clinics and the Call Center will provide updates to patients with appointments scheduled during the project, and updates also will be provided to patients via MyChart.

The UIC Office of the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services also will maintain construction updates throughout the project at GrenshawnGarage.com.

Please continue to visit the UI Health website and social media channels for updates.
