Craniofacial Center

Welcome to The Craniofacial Center

Our comprehensive multi-disciplinary team works to achieve functional, cosmetic and psychosocial normalcy for each patient for an improved quality of life. The Center is part of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery within the Department of Surgery in the UIC College of Medicine, the largest medical school in the United States. The Craniofacial Center is certified by the American Cleft Palate - Craniofacial Association and is also an approved team by Division of Specialized Care Children.

We are one of the oldest and largest facilities in the world dedicated to the evaluation and treatment of infants, children, adolescents, and adults with cleft lip and palate and other craniofacial birth conditions. We also provide rehabilitation for those with head and neck cancer or who have suffered craniofacial trauma.

Our mission:

  • To provide state-of-the-art cleft and craniofacial patient care
  • To lead the way in research to provide improved care
  • To educate students, residents and other care givers in cleft and craniofacial care

Recognizing the multiple and complex needs of our patients, The Craniofacial Center fosters the team approach for cleft and craniofacial care; medical and dental specialists and allied health professionals working together to provide multidisciplinary, comprehensive care in a single location. Our entire team cooperates to provide comprehensive care to achieve functional, cosmetic, and psychosocial normalcy. Our goal is to provide an improved quality of life for each of our patients.

The Craniofacial Center has fostered the TEAM Approach to care since it was founded in 1949. Your first visit will include a comprehensive evaluation by our team of medical and dental specialists and allied health professionals. This visit may include a physical examination, 2 and 3 dimensional digital x-rays and photographs and other tests that are necessary. The team then meets in conference to develop both a short and long term care plan. These treatment plans are then presented to the patient and their family.

We hope you will visit our modern, patient-friendly facility located on the near west side of Chicago on the University of Illinois Hospital and Health Sciences campus.

We invite you to explore our website to learn more about The Craniofacial Center, our comprehensive multi-disciplinary team, and the many services we provide.
