Quality & Safety Awards
The Good Catch Award, Exceptional Assist Award, and Safety Star Award recognize staff who help ensure quality and safety in our care environments by improving processes, strengthening workflows, or supporting systems that enhance patient safety.
Award recipients receive a surprise recognition ceremony and gifts from the Recognition Team. The recipient’s nominator, leaders, and team also are invited to attend the ceremony, where the nomination will be read as part of the award presentation.
Good Catch Award
The Good Catch Award recognizes a staff member who identified and addressed a potential safety concern or error before it resulted in harm. This award highlights individuals who demonstrate strong professional judgment, attention to detail, and accountability by speaking up and taking action. Their efforts help prevent harm and strengthen a Culture of Safety and transparency at UI Health.
The criteria for a Good Catch Award include:
- Individual Identifies an instance of potential patient harm.
- Individual takes an action that prevented patient harm.
- Individual displays a commitment to quality and safety in care environments.
Nominate an individual for a Good Catch Award by submitting a Good Catch Event Report.
Exceptional Assist Award
The Exceptional Assist Award recognizes a staff member employee who contributed to preventing patient harm by improving processes, strengthening workflows, or supporting systems that enhance patient safety. This award honors individuals whose efforts help make care safer and more reliable through collaboration, problem-solving, and continuous improvement.
Recipients will receive a surprise visit from the Recognition Team and be awarded a certificate. The leader, nominator, and nominees’ coworkers are also invited to attend.

The criteria for an Exceptional Assist Award include:
- Individual supported the development of processes that improve patient safety.
- Individual strengthened workflows to improve patient safety.
- Individual commitment to quality and safety in our care environments.
Nominate an individual for an Exceptional Assist Award by submitting a Good Catch Event Report.
Safety Star Award
The Safety Star Award honors individuals who consistently model safe behaviors, proactively identify risks, and inspire others to protect what matters most — our patients, our people, and our community. Through their leadership and commitment to safety, they help strengthen a culture of accountability, vigilance, and continuous improvement at UI Health.
