Cardiology (Heart Disease and Disorders)
At UI Health, we combine a medical and surgical approach to cardiology in order to deliver the highest level of care for disorders and diseases of the heart.
Heart failure occurs when the heart is unable to pump enough blood to meet the body’s needs, and high blood pressure and blocked arteries are common causes of failure. The Heart Failure Program at UI Health offer complete care, from early prevention strategies to end-stage treatment options.
For patients who have suffered a heart attack or had heart surgery, we offer a proven cardiac rehabilitation program featuring doctors and exercise physiologists on staff. Athletes, including marathon runners, know our cardiac program as the best place for cardiopulmonary testing in Chicago.
Cardiovascular Program for Women
Led by Dr. Joan Briller, the Cardiovascular Program for Women has a team devoted to identifying early predictors of heart disease. Established in 2001, the program is the most comprehensive of its kind in the city, providing state-of-the-art cardiac screening, prevention and therapy services, in addition to specialized care for pregnant women with heart disease.
Cardiac Catheterization Lab
Cardiac catheterization is a test used to diagnose abnormalities of the coronary blood vessels. Our cardiac catheterization laboratories are fully equipped to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional services. Standard diagnostic procedures are performed for both adult and child patients.
Echocardiography (EKG) Lab
EKG is a diagnostic test that uses ultrasound waves to produce an image of the heart muscle and valves. All clinical and research imaging is performed in our laboratory using the most technologically advanced equipment available.
64-Slice Computed Tomographic Cardiac Imaging
Coronary calcium screening is used to detect early, subclinical cardiovascular disease. We also provide 3-D noninvasive imaging of the coronary vessels.
Electrophysiology (EP) Lab
Our EP Lab is fully equipped to provide state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic treatments for patients with symptomatic cardiac arrhythmias.
The CCVR at UIC is a nationally known center for cardiovascular research, allowing us to bring the latest medical discoveries directly to our patients.
