Weight Management
We know that losing weight is tough. At UI Health, we understand weight loss on an individual level. Our team is here to help diagnose and provide personal treatment options based on your needs. We offer both non-surgical and medical weight-loss options.
Weight management means keeping your body weight healthy. This involves regular exercise and a healthy diet. The scope of a medical weight loss and weight management looks at your nutrition intake and medical risk factors associated with weight.
Scientific studies show that obesity results from a combination of genetic influences and lifestyle patterns that may lead to serious medical problems, including diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis. That's why our weight-management programs are physician-monitored and designed to improve health through sustained weight loss, based on reasonable, long-term goals.
When you make an appointment with us, you'll go through a nutrition evaluation. From this, we'll be able to help you set up goals and find a treatment plan that works for you.
Our Team
Our team includes a board-certified internist, who is also a physician nutrition specialist, in addition to registered dietitians, nurse practitioners, bariatric surgeons, and plastic surgeons specializing in body-contouring procedures. Psychological and psychiatric support services also are available.
What We Offer
Conservative, Medically Supervised Weight Loss Program
If you're interested in nonsurgical weight loss, this program is for you. Your first visit to our clinic involves a thorough nutrition assessment by a registered dietitian, followed by a medical nutrition evaluation with our physician nutrition specialist. We'll help you figure out your weight-loss goals and work with you to assess your progress.
Medical Weight Loss and Surgical Weight Loss Program (Bariatric Surgery)
If you're interested in surgical or medical weight loss treatment, you'll be referred to someone on our team for a separate consultation. Our Bariatric Surgery Program offers several surgical options. Most insurance companies require "Medically Supervised Weight Loss" that consists of 3–18 months of visits with our physician and dietitian before being approved for surgery.
