Neurology Staff Raises Money and Awareness for Patients and Caregivers of ALS

Friday, May 16, 2014

ALSA GroupOn May 31st, Neurology staff members will participate in the Walk to Defeat ALS Greater Chicago Walk in Cantigny Park, Wheaton, IL. The walk represents hope for patients/family members dealing with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) as the community comes together to show their support, walk for a great cause and raise money.

Sponsored by the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association (ALSA), the Walk to Defeat ALS represents the biggest annual event organized by ALSA (www.alsa.org). The funds raised in local events allow for area chapters to sustain care services and support research opportunities to ultimately find a cure.
The UI Health Neurology Department ALS clinic allows physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, physical and occupational therapists, speech therapists, dieticians, geneticists, social workers, orthotists mobility device specialists, and ALSA representatives to work together in a multi-disciplinary setting to help efficiently coordinate care for the patients and families suffering from this devastating neurodegenerative disease. By spreading awareness and raising money for research endeavors, together we will one day be able to provide improved treatments to slow the progression or even reverse the disease process.
