Dia Del Nino
Dia Del Nino

The University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System (UI Health) was the only hospital providing various health screenings and health education at the Día del Niño Walk and Family Festival, organized by the National Mexican Fine Arts Museum in Chicago.  Over 5,000 children and adults attended this event, celebrating, Children's Day, a national holiday in Mexico and other Latin American countries.

Our presence provided UI Health an opportunity to increase awareness of our medical care.  Departments offering health screenings included the Heart Center, Pediatric Dentistry, Pediatric Allergy, Immunology and Pulmonary, Nutrition and Wellness Center, Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and various departments represented by UI Health nurse volunteers.  In all 60 clinical volunteers assisted with health screenings.

Over 80 individuals (children & adults) signed up for free health screenings, 80 received blood pressure screenings, 60 cholesterol checks, 15 asthma exams, as well as over 50 screenings for dental, eye, and Body Mass Index (BMI) checks. We distributed information on UI Health's Accepted Insurance Plans, BMI/Diabetes information, Asthma, Nutrition and Wellness, Cardiology services, Overweight & Obesity in Latinos and Adopting Heart Healthy Habits.
