Specialized Services

Medication-assisted Treatment (MAT)

The use of opioids - such as heroin, fentanyl, and other narcotics - is a national epidemic that also directly affects the Humboldt Park community. Mile Square-Humboldt Park offers comprehensive care for people seeking to manage opioid dependency or addiction. We offer an integrated care approach that assures every client who desires treatment for opioid use has access to both medical and behavioral health services to manage their addiction.

Our clinical team embraces a harm-reduction approach based on the philosophy that recovery from opioid dependency looks different for different people. We offer all of our patients medication-assisted treatment (MAT) using buprenorphine (Suboxone, Subutex, Sublocade) or naltrexone (Vivitrol). Behavioral health to support recovery from opioid addiction is integrated into our care model. If you or a loved one are seeking to manage an opioid addiction, we look forward to helping you on your journey to recovery.

HIV Prevention/Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) and HIV Testing

HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a medication-based strategy to prevent HIV infection. It is a daily pill that helps prevent people without HIV reduce their risks of becoming infected from sex or drug use.

People who are HIV-negative and in an ongoing sexual relationship with an HIV-positive partner(s) should consider taking PrEP.

You may benefit from PrEP if:

  • You don't always use condoms during sex
  • You or your partner(s) use certain drugs
  • You have sex for money or drugs
  • You've had a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the last 6 months

We prescribe PrEP for any person aged 13 or over who are at risk for HIV infection. We embrace our clients' sexual and gender identities and partner with our clients to reduce their HIV risk on their own terms, using the strategies that work for them.

For people whose HIV risk comes from drug or substance use, we also offer treatment and support for moderating or reducing substance use. Our behavioral health clinicians (social worker and psychiatric nurse practitioners) are integrated into our care team to assure that all patients have access to behavioral health services.

Behavioral Health and Counseling

The clinical team at Mile Square-Humboldt Park embrace a collaborative approach to treating the whole person. All of our clients have access to behavioral health and psychiatric services on-site. We offer short-term, problem-focused therapy, long-term psychotherapy, and medical management of all psychiatric illnesses. If you or a loved one are looking for counseling or psychiatric care close to home, we look forward to working with you on your journey to recovery.
