Clinical Pastoral Education
Our training program provides a learning opportunity for ministry professionals, seminary students, and qualified lay persons to develop their theoretical, clinical, theological, professional, and personal competencies in the delivery of pastoral care to patients, their families, staff, and students.
We offer an interfaith program developed by the Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training (ICPT) which is dedicated to offering a standardized and evidenced-based Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training program to chaplains and spiritual care providers.
What Makes Our CPE Program Unique?
Chaplaincy students involved in a unit of clinical pastoral education receive:
- A minimum of 400 hours of training, including no less than 100 hours of structured group and individual education combined with 300 hours of supervised clinical practice in ministry.
- Our hybrid learning units blend face-to-face classroom instruction, with online meetings and training. This allows CPE supervisors to combine technology with face-to-face teaching to meet the unique needs of our learners.
- UI Health offers a Supportive Care service and has dedicated palliative care chaplains. Students will have the opportunity for exposure to palliative medicine as a part of their training.
Accreditation
The Institute for Clinical Pastoral Training is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Continuing Education & Training (ACCET). ACCET is listed by the U.S. Department of Education as a nationally recognized accrediting agency.
