Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at UI Health provides evaluation, management, and surgical treatment of diseases, disorders, and injuries of the face, jaw, mouth, and teeth. Our surgeons specialize in reconstructive, corrective, and aesthetic surgery, and microsurgical nerve repair, to improve facial appearance and function. They also collaborate with our Craniofacial Center and Head & Neck Cancer teams to provide comprehensive treatment for patients receiving primary treatment with those programs.

Veronica was 11 years old when she and her family learned she had an aggressive tumor on her jaw. Luckily she was referred to the Oral Maxillofacial Surgery team at UI Health to remove her tumor and perform reconstructive jaw surgery without impacting her quality of life. Tanya McCarter is a UI Health nurse who suffered damage to a facial nerve during dental surgery. To treat the damaged nerve, she turned to her UI Health colleague, microsurgery expert Dr. Michael Miloro, who literally authored a textbook on her particular injury. "When I started researching nerve repair specialists, I found Dr. Miloro. And because he was at UI Health, I knew he would take great care of me," said Tanya.

Meet The Department Head
Dr. Michael Miloro is the head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at UI Health. Dr. Miloro's clinical and research interests include nerve regeneration, bone healing, implantology, TMJ disease, and orthognathic surgery. He is a professor of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.
